Training Policy Published

IODAI has just published its Training Policy which is intended to give guidance to sailors, their parents, coaches, clubs, the ISA, and IODAI committee members. You can access it in the documents section of the website at any time or click here to download.

The policy recognises that Optimist sailing is a first and vital stage in what hopefully for most is a long and pleasurable sailing career, and is geared towards fostering a life long love of the sport.

It explains the different stages that young sailors go through in becoming proficient Optimist Sailors.

It also outlines how training is conducted at various levels, and IODAIs role in same.

IODAI recognises that it is sailing clubs who are best positioned to deliver coaching to its members and wants to facilitate that as much as possible.

One of the primary difficulties that club organisers face when arranging coaching is access to quality coaches and knowledge of appropriate pay rates and standards.

With this in mind IODAI has arranged that the National Optimist coach Thomas Chaix will be available to assist in setting up appropriate club programmes, and is also compiling a database of local and other coaches which can be made available to club organisers on request. The best way to contact Thomas is via email thomas@tcsailingcoach.com or phone 086 1725256

IODAI also will work to improve coaching standards and is running a special Optimist Coaches Clinic in February – full details here
