Optimist Winter Training Clinic TBSC 2010

Venue: Tralee Bay Sailing School, Fenit, Co. Kerry, Ireland.

Kerry airport 25 minutes drive from Fenit.

As a venue Tralee Bay offers much opportunity to train in varying conditions; in strong wind conditions there is the sheltered environment of the harbour area, while outside the harbour in fairer weather sailors can practise sailing in a short chop. Beyond the lighthouse there is further opportunity to practise some great wave sailing techniques.

The West coast waters are also the warmest ones around Ireland in January allowing more time afloat without transforming it into a painful experience.

Tralee Bay Sailing School and Club have excellent shore facilities allowing the coaches and the sailors to work in good conditions in any weather.

Tralee town has many attractions such as the aquadome, cinema, shopping areas, ice rink, local beaches, golf clubs and the surrounding hills which can provide a sporty or relaxing time for parents to recover from the Christmas holiday festivities and New Year’s Eve…!

Dates: Sunday 3rd January to Wed 6TH January, finishing at 2pm on Wednesday and 4.30pm each day. The clinic will commence daily at 10am. Sailors should arrive each day dressed in jogging gear and have their boats fully rigged for 10am.

Entry Requirements: This clinic is aimed at improving racing skills for all sailors who have already been racing for at least one full season and longer. This clinic is not suitable for beginners. Following up on the successful clinic last year we will have some highly ranked sailors attending from France and Denmark along with highly ranked Irish sailors. The clinic will offer top class coaching to sailors who are eager to work hard and progress.

Coaches: ,Lead Coach,Thomas Chaix ( French; ISA National Optimist Coach, has vast international experience, see www.tcsailingcoach.com ), other coaches - Dennis Paaske (Danish; Coach with great international experience) Alan Ruigrok (Irish, an accomplished and experienced Laser radial sailor and former optimist sailor, coached at the British Nationals and Irish Nationals this year) Other coaches to be confirmed  depending on numbers and demand.

Requirements for sailors: Sailors should remember to bring the following items with them:

1. A hat, winter gloves, cold weather sailing gear such as a drysuit with a very warm thermal inner layer and a buoyancy aid.
2. A packed lunch with plenty of liquids.
3. Sailor’s notebook and pen.
4. Running shoes and jogging gear.
5. Warm clothes to change into after sailing.
