IODAI 2010 Optimist Training Clinic Schull
Monday 15th February – Friday 19th February 2010
Organisation for the IODAI Annual training clinic is now in full swing all we need is Your Entry. Dates for the event are Monday 15th February until Friday 19th February 2010 inclusive. Come on down and enjoy your Spring mid-term Holidays. We promise it will be the best International Clinic in Europe in 2010.
All levels will be catered for: Main Fleet, transition from Regatta Fleet to main fleet, Regatta Fleet and pre-regatta fleet.
All the family catered for. Mums, Dads, older and younger siblings will all be entertained whilst you sailors are out having fun. If the weather turns bad there are plenty of activities planned so it will not be a week of hanging around waiting for the right conditions to go out on the water!
So why come to Schull?
Meeting Friends: those of you who have been before will meet your sailing pals in preparation for the season ahead. Those of you who have never been before will meet lots of new friends from all over the country of a similar standard of sailing and will remain friends throughout your sailing years and beyond.
Improve Sailing: This year the line up of coaches makes it the best International Clinic every organised in Europe. We make it so easy to improve your sailing skills. You will be grouped in small groups for coaching and then mixed for racing practice. Top international and Top Irish coaches will be in Schull and promise a high standard of coaching appropriate to your ability – from Senior Gold down to pre-regatta fleet. The length of time spent on the water each day will depend on your ability.
The Coaching: Top international coaches have been booked for the week on a ratio that will ensure you, the sailor, will receive training suitable for your ability. International coaches include Massimo (Italian), Dennis & Kasper (Danish), Vagelis (Greek), LuLu (Spanish), David Harte (Irish), along with Steffano (RCYC), David White (HYC) and many other Irish Coaches to join the line-up. Keep watching the website for updates on the rest of the coaching squad. The ISA Squad will be in attendance with their coach Thomas Chaix.
Regatta Fleet Coaching: This will be headed up by top Irish Coach and it is a very exciting and detailed programme with a ratio of maximum 1 coach to 8 sailors.
Pre-Regatta Fleet Coaching: This is for beginners, possibly your first time to sail in your optimist. You will be in groups of one coach to 6 sailors and promises to be a great introduction to sailing and hopefully you will be able to sail on your own by the end of the week.
Social Activities: A separate committee have joined together to organise plenty to do whilst you are not on the water to include our traditional events of Table quiz, annual tug-of-war, Cake competitions !! and lots of other surprises.
For non-sailors come along and meet other Oppie Parents and share coffee, organised walks, cycles, boat trips, rigging clinics, ISA talks, powerboat courses to name but a few.
Work Roster: Yes, all events involving you kids involve the help of your parents. For your parents it’s a great way to meet new people and share knowledge with each other. The success of Schull week depends greatly on parents volunteering throughout the week and the time you invest will be greatly appreciated by the organising committee (who are voluntary also). We require parents to pick one activity on the entry form, everyone can help out – those of you who like getting wet can opt for launching, outdoor people can opt for safety, or the rest of you can opt for making hot chocolate, catering, entertainment etc etc. If everyone volunteers for one activity it will be fun everyone (although if you are willing to volunteer all week we won’t say no!!).
Food: For those who have not been to Schull the day starts with breakfast in your houses/accommodation, we provide the lunches (hot soup and fresh rolls with all the fillings you’ll desire – you pick), hot chocolates and biscuits when you come off the water at 4:00.
RIBS: Voluntary Ribs are required for the safe running of this event. If you have or can borrow a RIB please let us know as soon as possible. We will require a minimum of 20 RIBs to ensure safety and coaching on the water. Petrol allowance will be provided for all.
Location: Schull Fastnet Marine & Outdoor Education Centre. It is walking distance from Schull Village and in a safe location in West Cork. No need for cars for the week. Facilities include large changing rooms, kitchens, and plenty of indoor space for inside activities. More information check their website: www.schullsailing.ie
