Oppie measurers - a busy time ahead
Last year we suddenly ran out of Optimist Measurers and IODAI pulled out all the stops to have a number of willing persons trained up for this season.
However the role of an optimist measurer is not an easy one. As a very strict one design, all Optimist parts require measurement before boats can be sailed in any IODAI event. The trials which are taking place this weekend require all boats, including sails, spars and foils to be strictly checked.
Our measurers have been very busy and have asked that sailors / parents requiring measurement do not leave it to the last minute. We have a number of IODAI events coming up and all our volunteer measurers will be as busy as you are getting ready for the events - most are Oppie parents themselves. Last minute rushes (and sometimes impolite demands) are certainly not what they or IODAI want. Please get your measurement requirements completed in good time and consider a thought for the volunteers who give up their time.
The measurers are all willing to help out but certainly don't want to be inundated the week before an event. If you need equipment measured please contact them as soon as possible.
Unlike many other classes, no fees are involved in Optimist measurement but some gesture of appreciation for the time involved is suggested.
