In order to “gear up” the young Irish sailing talents for this event (considered by ISAF to be the “Youth Sailing Olympics”), the NYC and the RStGYC have teamed up to organise a yearly “Youth Championship” leading to 2012.
IODAI have been asked by the host club to draw the following press relaese to the attention of all members.
IODAI sailors involved in the Trials should note that the date coincides with the "reserve" weekend for the trials so you should be careful not to confirm (or pay) for your entry until it's certain that the trials will not run to the "reserve" weekend.
“Royal St George and National Yacht Clubs announce 2009 Mitsubishi Youth Championships
As part of the preparations to host the 2012 ISAF World Youth Championships in Dun Laoghaire, The Royal St George and National Yacht Clubs will jointly run the 2009 Mitsubishi Youth Championship on the weekend of 9th & 10th May next.
6 races are scheduled on 2 of the courses that will be used for the 2012 Worlds on Dublin Bay,
The championship is open to Optimist, Topper, RS Feva, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7 and 420 classes and possibly other classes for youth sailors under 21 years of age on 31 December 2009. A requirement of entry is that helms should have competed in a class regional, national or international event.
Prizes will include a coaching grant to the crew considered to have best ‘Youth Worlds Potential’
