Reminder – The closing date for the Schull Coaching Clinic (Feb 16th-20th) is fast approaching. Entries are coming in fast and furious and limited to 100 sailors so apply now. A week of great sailing, top-class coaching and great fun is guaranteed.

 

 

Coaching

Coaches include

 

Massimo Giorgianni ,  Italian National coach already well known to many of you

 

 Dennis Passke from Denmark qualified for Europeans and Worlds as an optimist sailor and won several national and international regattas. He has worked been coaching for the last 10 years and he has coached sailors who have won 4 National championships, 2 National team-racing championships and a European Champion (2005).

 

Kasper Paulsen from Denmark competed in 4 world and 6 European championships in various classes and is a danish national team coach. He has spent considerable time coaching in the USA.

 

Vagelis Atzemian has coached Greek National team at several Worlds/Europeans. He achieved world champion title “team race” and 1st, 2nd 3rd girls at Europeans.

 

Olympian Prof O’Connell -

 

Resident coach David Harte, national Optimist coach for many years prototype measurer and consultant for IODA and developer of the Harty Optimist

 

And a number of top Irish coaches and assistant coaches to be confirmed

 

The length and quality of coaching will be tailored to the sailors ability and coaches will be allocated to the sailors by the organisers in a fair and objective manner. The day will start with a morning run and some circuit training/ stretching exercises under the guidance of a qualified fitness instructor.

 

The Irish squad under Thomas Chaix, Optimist National coach will be in Schull during this week also.

 

Shoreside Activities

 

There is a huge emphasis on fun during the week. Planned activities include a quiz, a visit to the planetarium, sumo wrestling tournament for sailors and parents and gladiator jousting and much more

 

 

Adult Activities

A rigging clinic will be held and will be of interest especially to adults that are new to the optimist scene. Group walks will take place each day and an ISA-approved level 1 &  2 two day powerboat course will take place. Places are limited and further information will be available in the new year. Childrens activities for non-sailors

 

If you would like to book your child in for this please do so in advance if at all possible to ensure a place

Schull & Fitbones will organise 4 days of activities 10.30 -1.30 pm for children age 5-9 (approx) Tues - Thurs 17-20th February

Activities may include:

 - orienteering;

 - cycling (if children bring their own bikes and helmets with them). We can do cycling skills etc in the park;

 - multisports e.g. basketball, tennis, football;

 - parachute games;

 - slacklining (balance adventure sport);

 - fun & games;

 - drama, art.

 

Activities will be determined by the weather etc. We will do as much as possible outdoors so children need to wear appropriate clothing (warm, comfortable, hat, gloves, jacket, trainers). Bring a packed lunch and a drink.

Costs: €70/4 days; €20/single days; optional Fitbones t-shirt €10 blue/red
