New Year Optimist Clinic in Tralee - A report and results!!

The winter clinic concluded in tralee in another superb sailing day... The polar temperatures did not slow down the entusiasm of the sailors and we all spend another 3 hours afloat putting a total time afloat well over 20 hours, which is a great achievement in January .

It was really the day to apply learnings with 4 races sailed. Starts, strategies and close tactics were at the menu. With 3rd placed  french Pauline Blais out of action for the day, it was to be a day for the Danish national squad with Iben Nielsby taking the initial race before Laerke Gravenssen showed her talent taking the remaining 3. Overall, Iben overtook Fiona Daly once more to win the first TBSS winter trophy. Laerke superb display allowed a great catch up and she took second away from Fiona who had to settle for 3rd. Best National fleet finisher was Michael Magowan from Tralee who overtook Tadgh Donnely from The NYC on the last race of series. Top Silver was local Tralee sailor Tadgh O Lionsin. He also received the coaches award for his attitude and dedication during the week; a new Quantum sail!

Coaches Dennis Paaske, Thomas Chaix and David White were very happy with the work covered, the facilities offered to the sailors, the quality of the training ground and the experience will certainly continue in the futur.

Tralee Bay Sailing school and the bay are get prepared to welcome all sailors and coaches Thomas Chaix and Dennis Paaske are "polishing" a great 4 days program.

Tralee Bay offers great opportunities to train in various condition in the safe environment of the harbour area in a blow, or work on short shop and tides well inside the bay or practising waves techniques passed the lighthouse. The West coast waters are also the warmest ones around Ireland at that period allowing more time afloat without transforming it into a painful experience.

TBSC and TBSS have excellent shore facilities allowing the coaches and the sailors to work in good conditions in any weather.

The town (Aquadome, cinema, shopping…) and the surrounding hills can provide a sporty or relaxing time for parents to recover from the great times of Christmas and the new year evening…
