Ciara Peelo is representing Ireland in the Laser Radial Class at this year's Olympic Games in Beijing. Only a few years ago Ciara was a European Oppie sailor and was also team coach for IODAI at 3 Europeans over the last number of years.
She is one of the most accomplished Irish Sailors in recent times, with three medal finishes in World or European level competition - more than any other Irish female sailor.
Ciara is the only Irish Olympic sailor who does not have any financial backers. To this end several people have got together to help her in her campaign. These include her mother Ursula, ex IODAI President, her brother Darragh (ex World Oppie sailor), Kevin Flanigan and Frank Coughlan from Joker Boats. Mary White MYC is also helping out.
A number of fundraising events have been organised. Things are really flying now and Saturday June 14th has been designated as Ciara Peelo Day. In Ciara's hometown of Malahide and surrounding areas they are supporting Ciara by running several key events and all local clubs are having BBQ's on the day in support of Ciara.
