Oppie Sail Numbers to be re-issued
Recently the ISA issued a number of new Optimist Dinghy Sail numbers out of sequeence. This matter has now been resolved.
IODAI recently became aware that a number of new Optimist Dinghy Sail Numbers had been issued out of sequence by the ISA. IODAI raised the matter with the ISA for the following reasons:
- Firstly we believe this to be in contravention of the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) class rules.
- Secondly and probably more importantly it has implications with regard to the resale value of recently purchased boats. As the sail number is a recognised guide to the age of an Optimist Dinghy, it is important that the issue of sail numbers by the ISA, corresponds with the date of registration.
The ISA confirm that this was an administrative error on their part and IODAI were in no way accountable for it. They take full responsibilty and will re-issue new numbers without delay. They also assure that they have put in place procedures to ensure it does not happen again.
The IODAI committee have agreed that those boats with out-of-sequence numbers will be accepted as legitimate entries with measured sails for the upcoming Trials only. Thereafter they must change to the correct sail number which the ISA will be issuing without delay. This is for the convenience of those affected as they would be required to have their sails re measured after they change to their corrected sail number.
