Leinster Training resumes with big turn-out
With only three weeks to go before the Trials and six before the first regionals at Skerries it was a big turn-out for the Leinster Training double-dunter weekend session.
With a midweek forecast of 38 knot gusts, it looked unlikely that anything would happen at all for the weekend. However, as the week progressed the forecast abated somewhat and, come Saturday, the expected high winds had passed by midday. After morning rain, theory, briefings and an early lunch, the whole fleet including regatta fleet launched for a very useful and full afternoon training session. With forty boats, it was a very busy boatyard but plenty of coaches ensured that everyone receive appropriate instruction and training.

Sunday was even better and despite a mid-session hailstone shower most of the day produced sunshine and very useful winds. Most sailors were on the water for between 4 and 5 hours.
There are only two more Howth sessions (Sundays 6th &13th April) before the trials and one session in between the trials legs (Sunday 27th). After that, we can apply everything we have learned in the season ahead.
First Regionals are the Leinsters at Skerries on 10 and 11th May. |
