"Long Way Down" for ISA Squad boats
The ISA Squad's trip to Palma for this week's Ciutat de Palma Trophy got under way at the weekend but not without a slight hitch. ISA Coach Thomas was supposed to travel with the squads 12 boats and his RIB from Rosslare on Friday but adverse weather meant a diversion to the Dublin Holyhead ferry and long drives down through England and France.
As our photo shows the fully laden trailer is quite a handful and it will be a long drive for Thomas. The French leg alone is 16 hours. However, it will give the Squad great confidence to be sailing their own familair boats as opposed to charters.
The Squad themselves leave Dublin Airport very early on Wednesday morning. They fly to Barcelona and then on to Plama where they will stay in the Hotel Tryp Bellver which overlooks the marina at Palma. Ten races are scheduled over the next four days from Thursday to Sunday. The Squad travel home on Monday and I'm afraid it's back to school just like everyone else.
You can watch their progress on the event website http://www.trofeociutatdepalma.com/ The results should be on the "live" link and there's even a webcam so you can see what their weather is like.
A full report will be on this website when they return.
