ISA Squad News

Thomas Chaix reports:

With a forecast to discourage any normally minded sailors, the weather failed to discourage the ISA Optimist Squad from gathering for a weekend training in Kinsale last weekend (17th - 18th November).

Ross Killian, 470 Athens Olympian, was the guest coach for the weekend.

Saturday: When I left Tralee in the early hours of the morning, it was already raining and blowing a steady 30 knots. I was relieved to overtake the bad weather almost right away but I knew we would only have a few hours of reasonable weather for training. We launched quickly and managed to get an excellent session in big breezes. By half one, the "really" bad weather kicked in with gusts approaching 30 knots - even in the harbour. The Squad headed in but Killian and Ali stayed out a little longer to try out the conditions and I managed to get some "U Tube kind" videos.

Sunday: We launched under the sun... but in a polar northerly wind. The squad worked on starts, mark rounding and close tactics until the cold sent us back in for a long tactical debrief.

Our next outing will be in Palma (Mallorca) in early december where we hope the weather will be a little warmer.
